No, there can be only one entry per person/group.
2) I am not a final year student. Am I eligible for registration?
Yes, B.E, B.Tech, B.Sc(IT, Comp. Science), B.C.A., M.C.A., M.Sc.(IT, Comp. Science) and M.Tech students form Indian colleges can participate in the program. Participants can be individuals or a team of maximum FOUR students per team.

At the time of submission of the project all the team members must be students.
3) Can I change my "Project Category" from what I have entered in the registration form, when I submit my project proposal ?
Yes, but bear in mind that you cannot make any changes once the project proposal has been submitted by you/your team.
4) What is a bonafide student certificate?
A bonafide certificate is a certificate from your college attesting to the fact that you are a student of that college.
5) Is it necessary to host the project on some site?
Yes. This is an open source project and therefore we want the projects to be hosted on a community web site like Sourceforge.net or Sarovar.org to cite two examples. This is so that others can also benefit from the Open Source code that you have developed. It also gives technology experts an opportunity to mentor students like you.

6) What does the "project proposal" mean? Does each team give project ideas or they can take part in a project submitted by someone else?
Each team has to submit a project proposal with the following details:

1) A brief summary of the challenge being addressed; what kind of software is being developed and why.

2) How will it contribute to speeding up the adoption of open source software in India and/or contribute to the global open source community .

3) What are the references being used (e.g. books, web sites etc).

4) Where is the project being hosted (sourceforge.net, sarovar.org etc).

5) The plan for achieving the goals within the deadline.
7) Can the team members be from different colleges ?
Yes, team members can be from different colleges. We are maing the neccessary changes to the registration database but until then, enter the name of the college of the team leader (first registrant) and register your team online.
8) Can the project proposal be submitted in the form of a PDF document?
PDF proposals are not accepted. Kindly submit it online in the system we have created at www.it.iitb.ac.in/rhs

9) Can we increase no. of members if we have send the proposal earlier?
It's not possible to increase the number of members once a team has been registered. Please request them to form a seperate team.
10) Is it okay to send the project proposals by courier, or do we have to send it by email only i.e uploading through the iitb website
Please upload the proposal at www.it.iitb.ac.in/rhs . This online interface has been set up to make it easier for us to interact with the Red Hat Scholarships participants and vice-versa. You don't need to send a hard copy of the same proposal.
11) I have forgotten my group id
Send us a e-mail with the names of your team members and the e-mail ids and we will revert to you.
12) Can I upload Images or other non-textual material as part of proposal ?
Please write your project proposal in plain text only.
No uploading of non-textual material for project proposal is allowed.
13) Can I work on this project as part of the my B. Tech curriculum - so that I can submit the project to my institute as well?
Yes, you can.
14) We are a group of students at NCST(National center for software technology) , we have all completed our BE and undergoing PGDiploma in s/w tech. are we eligible for RH challenge?
Yes. You can register and participate in the challenge.
15) How do I upload my bonifide certificates?Do I have to scan the hard copy and then upload it?If yes, then in which format?
You can upload it in JPEG format.
16) Will Red Hat assign a mentor/project guide to our team?
The students participating in the Red Hat Scholarships are responsible for finding their own mentors and completing the projects. We are inviting people from the industry and academia to volunteer as experts. Please note that we will not be "assigning" any experts to the project groups. Once the experts begin signing up online (around mid September) students can write to them and request them to be their team mentors. Alternately an expert can choose to write to a team and offer to guide them. The Red Hat Scholarships will merely create a platform to enable this interaction, but the students are responsible for finding their own mentors and completing the projects.
17) I would like to know what do you mean by "Meritious students getting redhat certificates".Does that mean only students winning the cash prizes in award category will get the certificates of appreciation?
The teams that impress the judges of the Red Hat Scholarships will be awarded the certificates. This would include those teams that win the scholarship prize money as well as a few of the teams that submitted excellent projects that did not make the final list of prize winners.
18) How much work a mentor is required to do? I am interested in mentoring. Is there any compensation?
We aim to create a platform for technology experts to share their skills with open source enthusiasts. This is a voluntary activity and there is no compensation offered.
